Krystle Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and an advanced degree from the University of North Texas. She is currently teaching 4th grade mathematics at Springridge Elementary in the Richardson Independent School District. Krystle has always had a strong desire to serve others and in so doing, reciprocally learn from cultures all over the world. After working with children and young adults in South America, it further fueled her drive and commitment to working with young people all over the world. "Living in another country and experiencing their culture puts so much into perspective. You realize that you have the power to make a positive impact on someone else's life and that with it comes the responsibility to change your life too." Angela graduated in 2005 from University of Texas at Arlington with a Master’s degree in Social Work. She is the Student Assistant Specialist at Lake Highlands High School Freshman center in the Richardson Independent School District. Angela works with at risk students in both residential and educational settings and has done so for over ten years. Angela has always had a passion for working with forgotten kids, those children that others seem to brush aside . This passion began as a junior high student volunteering with various non-profit organizations at church and with her family. When asked about this particular trip to South Africa, Angel relies with alacrity that she is “excited about the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the children in South African.” Jenna graduated from Texas A&M University in 2002 with a degree in Biology. She is the Science Department Chair at Berkner High School, where she has taught for the past 6 years and is also a member of the AVID Site Team (College preparatory course for student “in the middle”). She recently started working on her masters of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of North Texas. Jenna’s desire to become a teacher started at a very young age, and had fueled her desire to serve children abroad ever since. “I have a particular passion to reach those who are most in need, and I know that the kids that I will be working with this summer will teach me just as much, if not more, than I will teach them. I am very excited to be a part of the Teachers Making a Difference team!” Cassie graduated from Texas A&M University in 2004 and has been teaching for 4 years. She is currently the Reading Specialist at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in the Richardson Independent School district. Her passion for working with at-risk children started as a counselor at a summer camp for inner-city youth in 1999. In 2001 and 2003, she traveled with a college group around South America and worked at orphanages and children's cancer clinics. Since that time, she has always had a desire for working with underprivileged children. "After two of my roommates returned from a trip to Africa and showed me their pictures, I knew that I HAD to go. The little faces in the pictures touched my heart and I can't wait to love all over these kids who have been through so much in their little lives. I just hope that I can impact their lives as much as I know they will impact mine." This year will mark the second trip for Cassie as she returns to the same Orphanage and School where she fostered the relationships of love that she had envisioned. Euan started Teachers Making a Difference from his passion to help others and from his experience with an adopted brother-in-law, Justin. In 2007 Euan went with two other teachers to Makaphutu Children's village and officially partnered with them and their worthy mission. He graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas and has been teaching 6 years. He is currently teaching science at Berkner High School in the Richardson Independent School district. Euan is originally from South Africa and grew up during the very tumultuous apartheid era in which he witnessed many injustices. It was from this background that his passion for helping those in need arose. Since his adopted brother-in-law died at the young age of 4 due to complications from AIDS he has been motivated to help those who are afflicted with this dreadful disease. “Traveling back home to help those children affected by poverty and AIDS is a trip well worth taking and I believe that by donating to this worthy cause others can play a vital part in helping make these children’s lives a little richer and perhaps somewhat easier!” |
