KwaNuyswe July 29th , 2009:  TMD, a U.S.A. based NPO with a mission of assisting at risk youth in Sub-Saharan Africa, including those affected by the AIDS pandemic, through education and the support of its infrastructure is please to announce the completion of their latest project.

After three weeks of renovations totaling around R27,000 ($3,500 USD) the classroom at KwaNtenbeni Comprehensive High School is finally complete.  The room received a much needed facelift that included the installation of floor tiles, 5 taps and basins with running water, new paint on the walls and windows, repairs to broken windows and ceiling.  TMD also purchased 50 chairs and 8 tables for students to use for LAB practicums.

As part of the process of updating the school’s technology to the 21st century, a new LCD projector was also purchased to be exclusively used in the science room.  This will facilitate the education of the learning by allowing them to see science concepts come to life in real-time 3-D animation as well as watching science documentaries without the need of a television.

Teachers Making a Difference ® is the work of Kearsney College old boy Euan Blackman and was started just three years ago with the idea of bringing US teachers to South Africa to work in rural areas to improve teaching methods and show the local population that everyone can make a difference in their lives if they just take the initiative.  This year 5 teachers ventured to KwaNuyswe to teach at two local schools and are housed out of Makaphutu Children’s Village, also in KwaNuyswe.

The opening will take place at 11AM on Tuesday August 4th at KwaNtenbeni High School.
